We receive many proposals from large, established companies as well as from creative private individuals about products relating to Astrid Lindgren’s works or characters. It can be anything from analogue or digital games and toys to clothing or tableware. Here you can read more about our views on licenced products.
Many people have ideas and things they would like to do, and we have a great many requests for licences, which is why we would like to give you a brief outline of how we process these requests.
First we want a short, written presentation of your idea and your company. If we find your idea exciting, we will initiate a dialogue.
In phase two we would like to see your marketing and activity plan. What do you want to do and when? Who is your target audience, what markets are you aiming at and what distribution and sales channels are you looking at? And finally, describe how production will be done.
If we both decide to take the project further, a licensing contract will be drafted by The Astrid Lindgren Company or our agent. In brief, it includes conditions for: a) Process for approvals, b) Production, c) Royalty and pre-payments and d) Contract period and scope/territory.
The next step is production, launching and tracking. The Astrid Lindgren Company is actively involved in approving each step of the product development, from idea and sketch to prototypes and finished products.
Our basic rule is that what is being made or done is first and foremost intended for children, that it should be fun and encourage play. We are very quality-conscious in this area too.
The Astrid Lindgren Company is positive to licensed manufacturers who share our values and involvement in children’s rights. (We have chosen to support SOS Barnbyar as our first priority.)
If you are interested in a license, please contact The Astrid Lindgren Company. In some territories we are represented by a local licensing agent, but contact us and we will direct you to the correct agent. You can read more above about the process involved in acquiring a license.
